Whole School Updates

SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican & Methodist Schools)

All Church of England Schools are inspected approximately every 5 years by a SIAMS Inspector and our next inspection will take place on Wednesday 22nd January. Our last inspection was in 2017. The inspector will speak to pupils, staff, governors and parents to understand how our Christian vision is enabling the whole school community to flourish. Following the inspection, a report will be published on our school website and the SIAMS website and this report will celebrate all that is special about the school and will identify next steps that are helpful in the school’s ongoing development as a Church school.

Uniform

Please can we ask for parents / carers support in ensuring children are coming to school in the correct school uniform.  We have seen an increasing number of non-school uniform (home clothes) items being worn, including fashion hair accessories, black leggings, boots and hoodies. We appreciate your co-operation in sending your child(ren) to school in the below:

If your child is missing any items of uniform, FOTS will be running a second-hand uniform sale shortly after February half term. Items are very competitively priced and all proceeds go to FOTS to be spent on pupils.

Swimarathon Henley

We had a great turn out for the Maidenhead Swimarathon on Sunday 12th January where 22 children (Yrs 2-6) swam in the style of a relay and helped to raise in excess of £800 for Trinity Primary School.

Our next Swimarathon will be on Saturday 22nd March from 2.40pm-3.30pm at Henley Leisure Centre, Gillotts Lane. This fantastic, fun event is open to anyone who can swim and is another superb fund-raiser for our school. For those who took part this Sunday, we really hope to see you participating again and that you will tell your friends how much fun it was. Wouldn't it be great if we could fill all six lanes at Gillotts and have a lane per year group?

Please sign up using the link below if your child is interested. This link will remain open until the end of January:

Learn to play the violin or cello

We now have a violin and cello tutor coming into school each week.  The children were told about this in assembly on Monday and had a chance to see what these instruments look and sound like and many were enthusiastic about the opportunity.  If your child is interested please contact Andy Nice (Oxfordshire Music Service) on andrew.nice@oxfordshire.gov.uk.  Fees are payable, but bursaries are available.  We are looking forward to hearing even more music around school!

Scarlet fever

We have a confirmed case of scarlet fever in EY. Please consult the NHS website for guideline and keep an eye on your child over the weekend to see if they develop any symptoms:

Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2)

Learning Means the World

We have been learning about the parts of a boat and how people move boats into and out of the water and the children enjoyed making their own trailers in school. Here's a link for an optional activity idea for making a trailer, which the children could do at home https://www.youtubeeducation.com/watch?v=ztsuHHD7TZ0

Phonics Screening Check

In preparation for the Phonics Screening Check, which will be taking place later in the year, the children in Year 1 have been introduced to alien/nonsense/fake words. We have explained to the children that they need to use the same approach when reading these words as they do when reading real words, e.g. look for any digraphs/trigraphs/split digraphs/alternative sounds (explained below), blend the sounds and read the word.

Please support your child to read and sort real and fake words by playing Buried Treasure, Picnic on Pluto or Dragons Den on the Phonics Play website (Phase 5): https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/5. Current Year 2 children who did not pass the screening check last year would also benefit from playing these games at home too.

Further details will be sent in due course, but if you have any initial questions please contact Miss Rolfe on Rosen@trinityprimaryschool.org.

Phonics vocabulary explained:
Digraphs - two letters making one sound, e.g. sh for shell
Trigraphs - three letters making one sound, e.g. igh in light
Split digraph - two letters represent a vowel sound but the two letters are split by an intervening consonant (for example, ‘a_e’ in ‘take’).
Alternative sounds - where a single letter makes an alternative sound, e.g. a can be a or ai - a for ant, ai for acorn.
