It has been a wonderful start to the Autumn term at Trinity and it is hard to believe that we are already approaching half-term! There have been so many highlights already and it has been lovely to see the children settling into their new classes and embracing new opportunities. Please read on to find out what the children have been enjoying in their different phases.
One of the biggest highlights of the term has undoubtedly been the official opening of our wonderful new EYFS learning environment.

After months of planning and a busy summer of building work, it was incredibly special to welcome families and members of our school community to celebrate the transformation. The new space is bright, welcoming and provides a fantastic environment for our youngest children to learn, play and flourish. We are enormously grateful to FOTS, whose fundraising made the majority of this project possible, alongside the dedication of our governors and the generous support of Henley Municipal Charities. It really has been a wonderful example of our school community coming together to make a lasting difference for our children.
It was also lovely to welcome so many families to our Harvest Service at church. The children shared their singing, artwork and reflections beautifully, reminding us of the importance of gratitude, generosity and thinking of others. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed so generously.
We were also delighted for our school council to be involved in the launch of the Henley Tree Trail organised by Henley Town Council and Greener Henley. Our School Council represented Trinity at the official launch and enjoyed exploring some of the wonderful trees in our local area. We are particularly pleased that Trinity is one of the stops on the trail! This was a lovely opportunity for our children to connect with their local environment and put our school vision of being good neighbours into action.
This term we also introduced our 'Meet the Teacher event' providing families with an opportunity to visit their children's classrooms, find out more about their learning and meet the staff. It was lovely to welcome so many parents into school and following positive feedback from many families, we hope this will become a valuable part of our annual calendar as we continue to strengthen our partnership with families.
Looking ahead, our school development priorities this year focus on inclusion, high-quality teaching and learning, and developing a love of reading. We are excited to build on the many strengths of Trinity and continue ensuring that every child feels valued, supported and inspired to flourish.
Finally, thank you to our families, staff, governors and wider community for your continued support. I hope everyone enjoys a restful half-term break and has the opportunity to enjoy some autumnal festivities. We look forward to another exciting half-term ahead!

We’ve had a brilliant first half-term at Trinity! The children are settling into school-life wonderfully, getting to know our routines and each other better, and showing us their lovely little personalities. It has been a busy first few weeks and we are so proud of the progress they have already made in such a short time!
Learning
Our learning theme has been around Autumn, with the children enjoying exploring the changing season, spotting signs of autumn around the school and discovering the colours, patterns and shapes found in nature. Our main story focus ‘Ruby’s Worry’ has captured the children’s imaginations, which have encouraged lots of lovely conversations about feelings, actions and expressions and describing words. In our Maths carpet times, we have explored patterns using shapes and colours, sorted objects by their properties, and begun to recognise amounts up to four without counting (subitising). We have also started comparing capacity using language such as big, medium and small.
Twiggy Wednesdays
We’ve also enjoyed our first two Twiggy Wednesdays. It was lovely to see the children exploring this new space, going on a mini-beast hunt and playing so happily together as they learnt their surroundings. Thank you to all the parents who supported us!
Enrichment opportunities
A real highlight was our visit to the Henley Literary Festival, where we met author Sophy Henn. The children loved seeing her books brought to life through live illustrations and audience participation, sharing their own favourite things and getting their own book to bring home.
EY Opening Celebration
Another very special moment was celebrating the opening of our new school building. It was wonderful to welcome families and all the adults involved in creating this fantastic new space, and the children did us proud with their performances and writing.
It has been a fantastic start to Reception, full of new experiences, growing confidence and plenty of memorable moments. We look forward to seeing what the next half-term brings!

Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2)
|
|
It has been a busy start to the year for Year 1 and 2. For Year 1s they’ve been settling into a new routine and learning the ropes of KS1. Year 2 have also made a brilliant start and have settled well.
Learning Means The World
In our classrooms during Learning Means The World, we’ve had lots of fun learning all about broadcasting, the history of the TV and radio and even having a go ourselves! The children also enjoyed learning about jingles in Music, writing their own and performing them to each other. We’ve kick-started our new topic ‘Paddington’s Passport’ which everyone is enjoying.
RE
In RE, we have been learning about Judaism. We learnt about Yom Kippur and the importance of this day to Jewish people. We also learnt about the Ten Commandments, which God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai, and how they guide Jewish people in how to live.
Enrichment opportunities
We enjoyed our trip to the Henley Literary Festival where we met Joseph Coehlo. The children enjoyed hearing about Joseph’s journey into writing and poetry and particularly enjoyed learning about and writing their own 1-word poems. Thank you to all parents/carers that volunteered their time to support us on this trip - it is greatly appreciated.
We hope you have a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing you in Autumn 2.

Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4)
|
|
As we come to the end of a busy and productive eight week half term, we have lots to celebrate. Children have settled well into their new classes and routines, which has made a good start to the year. It was lovely to see so many parents and carers at the meet the teacher sessions earlier this term and we want to thank you for your continued support.
Enrichment opportunities
A particular highlight this term was the opportunity for both year groups to visit the Henley Literary Festival.
- Year 3 met A.F. Harrold! - On Tuesday 6th October, Year 3 had a fantastic time visiting the Henley Literary Festival to see the wonderfully funny children’s poet and author, A.F. Harrold. He entertained us with his hilarious and imaginative poetry, bringing words to life with his energetic performance and brilliant sense of humour. We listened to poems from his new collection, If I Met a Tiger, which explores animals and nature in wonderfully funny and unexpected ways. The children were captivated by his playful use of language and enjoyed joining in with the session. It was wonderful to see so many smiles and hear so much laughter as we discovered just how much fun poetry can be!
- Year 4 met M.G. Leonard - On Wednesday 7th October our Year 4 children had a fantastic time at the Henley Literary Festival, where they had the exciting opportunity to meet author M.G. Leonard. She was fascinating to listen to as she shared fabulous stories and incredible tales about how she gets her ideas for her books. The children particularly enjoyed hearing about the inspiration and background behind her new book, Attack of the Sea Dogs and her travels around the world to discover the most marvellous doors that would become portals to her time travelling heroes. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet a real author and discover more about the magic behind creating stories. We came away feeling inspired and eager to read our copies of her new book!
English
In English lessons, the children have enjoyed our module on George’s Marvellous Medicine, working hard on paragraphs and then publishing their work. We have written negative character descriptions of George’s wicked grandmother and relished the opportunity to develop our descriptive language skills using expanded noun phrases, similes and fronted adverbials. This meant we had to follow with writing our own medicine recipes on how to turn her from a grotesque granny into a kind, cuddly lady!
Maths
This term in Maths, we’ve been busy building a strong foundation in number skills. Our Year 3 students have focused on understanding place value up to 1,000, including rounding numbers, finding 1 more / 1 less, and exploring 10 more or 10 less, as well as 100 more or 100 less. They’ve also been learning how to use number lines, partition numbers, and compare and order them confidently!
Meanwhile, our Year 4 students have taken these skills to the next level, working with numbers up to 10,000. They practised similar skills but with larger numbers, including exploring thousands and learning how to find 1, 10, or 100 more or less with ease. Year 4s have also tackled more challenging tasks like ordering and comparing larger numbers, ensuring they have a solid grasp of how numbers work on a bigger scale. We even introduced Roman numerals, which was a lot of fun!
Learning Means The World
Our children have really enjoyed our Lightning Speed Learning topic. They have developed their scientific understanding of electricity through lots of practical exploration, including building circuits, making switches and discovering which materials are electrical conductors and insulators. We also enjoyed a hunt around the school to find the different devices that can be part of a computer network, as well as getting a special glimpse inside the secret room where our school server lives! We now have a much better understanding of how computer networks and the internet work.
We have finished this term with our topic May The Force Be With You, which has been full of fun, hands-on investigations! The children have explored friction, gravity and magnetism through a range of practical experiments, giving them lots of opportunities to take ownership of their learning. Along the way, they have developed their core scientific skills of making predictions, carrying out careful observations and recording their results. It has been wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm grow as they investigated how and why things work!

Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 & 6)
|
|
The first few weeks of the year have been filled with exciting experiences and opportunities for our Year 5 and 6 children. Year 6 recently headed off for their residential at Calshot, where they will be embracing a wide variety of challenges and activities, including sailing, kayaking, the aero trail, shooting and skiing. Throughout the week, the children will be developing their ability to communicate, collaborate and support one another. But most importantly, having a great time and creating wonderful memories to share.
Year 6 Leaders
We were also delighted to announce our new Year 6 Leaders before the children headed off to Calshot. The successful pupils were presented with their much-anticipated badges of honour, marking an exciting new chapter in their leadership journey. We would like to congratulate every child who applied this year; the quality and enthusiasm shown across all of the applications was exceptional, and we were incredibly impressed by the standard of candidates.
Enrichment opportunities
Another highlight of the term was our visit to the Henley Literary Festival. Year 5 and 6 had the opportunity to hear from Joseph Paterson, author of 10 Children Who Changed the World. The children enjoyed listening to his experiences and learning more about the stories behind his book, providing plenty of inspiration for our own work with words and ideas.
English
Our English lessons have been particularly creative this term. We began by drawing inspiration from One Small Step, exploring a range of writing techniques and developing our understanding of how authors create engaging pieces of writing. The children then put their newly acquired skills into practice through an independent writing project inspired by the short animation La Luna. Using the sentence-stacking techniques they had been developing in class, they were able to experiment with vocabulary, sentence structure and descriptive language. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they have begun to apply these skills more independently.
Maths
In Maths, we have been revisiting and extending our understanding of place value and the four operations, while also exploring shape and angles. Alongside developing their mathematical fluency, the children have been encouraged to explain their thinking, justify their answers and apply their knowledge to a range of reasoning problems. Our weekly arithmetic tests are providing regular opportunities to practise key skills and improve both speed and accuracy. The children have shown great perseverance when tackling challenging problems and are continuing to build their confidence as mathematicians.
Learning Means The World
We have recently completed our A World of Bright Ideas unit in Learning Means the World. This topic has taken us on a journey through the world of invention and design, encouraging the children to think about how ideas develop and how inventions can change the way we live. From exploring significant inventions throughout history to investigating the science behind them, the children have had the opportunity to consider the creativity, curiosity and problem-solving that lie behind many of the objects and technologies we use every day.
Forest School
Our Forest School sessions are now coming to an end. They proved to be a real highlight for many of the children. These sessions provide a wonderful opportunity to learn outdoors, develop practical skills and work collaboratively in a different environment. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the parent volunteers who generously give their time to support our Forest School sessions. Your help is greatly appreciated and makes such a difference.
PE
In PE, MNR have been introducing the children to Netball, with a particular focus on developing agility, movement and core skills. These areas have also been reinforced during teacher-led sessions, allowing the children to practise their techniques and build their confidence when working as part of a team.
It has been a fantastic start to the year, with so many opportunities for the children to learn, challenge themselves and enjoy new experiences. We are incredibly proud of all they have achieved so far and look forward to seeing what the rest of the term brings!

Netball Tournament for UKS2
Thank you to Gillotts School for inviting our Upper Key Stage 2 pupils to a netball tournament this week. The children played superbly, competing against other local schools and showed great sportsmanship. Our Year 5 team won three matches and drew two, coming in 3rd out of 6 teams, while the Year 6 team came second overall, out of 4 teams. All played brilliantly and showed true sportsmanship and teamwork, improving each time they played.

It has been a very busy start to the year for our School Councillors. They have been enthusiastically sharing ideas for future fundraising events and discussing the charities and causes they would like to support throughout the year.
Henley Tree Trail
The School Councillors were also very fortunate to be the first children invited to take part in Greener Henley’s ‘Henley Tree Trail’. The trail encouraged them to pause, ‘look up’ and take notice of the trees and natural world around them. Their curiosity was certainly sparked, with the children asking lots of thoughtful questions and discovering plenty of new and interesting facts along the way.
Food Bank
We have also been learning about the importance of Harvest and considering how food donations can make a real difference to people within our local community. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our Harvest collection. All donations will be given to NOMADS Food Bank, where they will help support local families and individuals.
Care Home Visit
Finally, our Year 5 pupils have begun their visits to Acacia Care Home, where they take part in a service for the residents alongside Rev Sam Brewster. These visits provide a wonderful opportunity for the children and residents to spend time together, share experiences and build meaningful connections. It has already been lovely to see the positive impact these visits are having on both our pupils and the residents.

Year 1, 2 and 3 Choir reach finals of national competition!
In the Summer Term of last year, our young choir entered the national School Song Competition. It involved composing and performing a song and sending in a video to the organisers. We recently heard that our choir had been chosen to be a FINALIST in the 2026 competition! This means that our song in now live on the School Song website along with the other finalists, and the public can vote on the song they think is best. After the voting is over (at the end of October) a first, second and third place school will be announced. We are so proud of the children for their hard work in getting this far! It would be wonderful to have the whole school community supporting our choir, so if you would like to watch our entry, called 1,2,3 Sing!, and vote, visit this website and click on the big purple 'Vote now' button: www.theschoolvision.com

What a fantastic start to the school year! We would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents, carers and families who have supported our fundraising events and activities so far this term. Whether you've attended an event, volunteered your time, made a donation or simply helped spread the word, your support really does make a difference, and we are incredibly grateful!
We have lots of exciting events planned for the second half of the Autumn term, with plenty of opportunities for the children to have fun, families to get involved and our school community to come together. Upcoming events include the much-loved Glow in the Dark disco, two fantastic workshops for parents (block printing and wreath making), an educational reindeer visit at the school, the Christmas Fair and our first ever Santa Fun Run! Keep an eye out for more details over the coming weeks!
This year, we are also actively fundraising for several exciting projects to improve our school environment and make Trinity an even better place for our children to learn and thrive. Our priorities include purchasing new interactive smartboards for classrooms, installing air conditioning to make classrooms more comfortable throughout the year, creating a welcoming school library and reading space, as well as other improvements to classrooms and facilities.
These are ambitious projects, and we know they won't happen overnight, but with the continued generosity and enthusiasm of our wonderful school community, we hope to make a real difference for all the children at Trinity.
Thank you once again for your fantastic support – here's to another fun-filled and successful term of fundraising!
Neon Day, pictured below, was a real highlight (pun intended!) for Term 1!

We are very sorry to share that one of our co-chairs of governors, Eileen Barnes-Vachell, will be stepping down from her role due to personal circumstances.
Although she has only been part of our governing board for a relatively short time, she has made an enormous contribution to Trinity, for which we are hugely grateful.
|
|
With a wealth of experience as a long-serving Headteacher both in the UK and overseas, a former Ofsted inspector and an adviser to education boards, she has brought invaluable knowledge, insight and expertise to our school.
Since stepping into the role of Chair over a year ago, she has helped strengthen the effectiveness of our governing board, including restructuring its committees, and has played an important role in shaping the strategic direction of the school. She was also instrumental in inspiring our wonderful new EYFS environment and has been a passionate advocate for our most vulnerable pupils through her role as link governor for pupil premium and attendance. Her knowledge of education, including national developments and initiatives, has been invaluable. Most importantly, she has always had the very best interests of our children at heart.
On a personal note, I am incredibly grateful for her guidance, encouragement and support as Headteacher. We will miss her greatly and would like to thank her sincerely for everything she has given to Trinity. We wish her all the very best and hope she knows how much her contribution has been appreciated by our whole school community.

Getting to know the new Reception children!
It’s been lovely to pop in to see the Reception children each week before our main school assembly. We’ve been reading some picture stories from ‘The Beginner's Bible’ together about Jesus and his friends.
We run a popular free play club for Reception - Year 2s called Jivers on Mondays straight after school, at the church. We’d love to see any of the new reception children there!
Assemblies this term
In our main school church assemblies, we’ve been learning about God’s big promise to Abraham. After half-term, we’ll be working slowly through the Christmas story. The children are as sparky and engaged as ever!
Follow the Star
Our interactive walk-through nativity ‘Follow the Star’ was fully booked last year. This year, Follow the Star will be Friday 11th and Saturday 12th December. Bookings will open after half-term. We’d love to see you there!
Very best wishes, Rev Sam Brewster

We have really enjoyed our first few weeks delivering our before and after school provision at Trinity and getting to know all of the wonderful children and families.
The children have been settling in brilliantly and enjoying plenty of fun together, from sharing a healthy snack and playing games such as Jenga and indoor bowling, to getting outside for some fresh air and active play. Even our In2Care Director has been down to join in the fun and spend some time getting to know the children!
It has been lovely to see the provision beginning to take shape and we are looking forward to lots more fun throughout the year. We hope to see you at In2Care soon!
