Parent information sessions

As part of our School Development Plan, one of the school's key priorities is to enhance parental engagement, ensuring that our families feel informed, empowered and actively involved in their child’s education.

With this in mind, we are in the process of delivering a series of Parent Information Sessions throughout the academic year which aim to strengthen the partnership between home and school, helping you to feel more confident in supporting your child’s educational journey.

Internet Safety (Smart Phone Free Childhood) - Tuesday 13th January 7-8:30pm

Parenting in the digital age comes with unique challenges, from managing screen time and social media use to understanding the impact of gaming. This session, led by Dr. Kavita Abraham-Dowsing, will explore the links between excessive smartphone use and children’s mental health and wellbeing. The talk will provide practical strategies for delaying smartphone use and helping families achieve a healthy balance with technology. There will also be an opportunity for questions and discussion, giving parents a chance to share concerns and gain advice tailored to their family. Delivered in a supportive, non-judgmental way, this session aims to help parents navigate the digital world and support their children to thrive.

These will take place each half term with a combination of morning and afternoon dates, see below.

  • Friday 22nd May 9-10am
  • Thursday 9th July 1:30-2:30pm
  • Friday 10th July 9-10am

The Stay and Play sessions will give parents and carers the opportunity to spend time in the classroom alongside their child, experiencing first-hand how learning takes place in the Early Years. The sessions are designed to help families understand the EYFS curriculum, see the types of play-based activities children engage in, and learn how these experiences support key areas of development such as communication, early maths, and personal, social, and emotional growth. They also provide a wonderful chance for parents to observe their child’s learning, talk to staff, and gain ideas for supporting learning through play at home. Above all, our Stay and Play sessions aim to strengthen the partnership between home and school, creating a shared understanding of how we can work together to give every child the best start in their education.

How children learn, exploring the science of learning

This series of sessions will give parents insight into how children learn, drawing on current research from cognitive science and developments in educational research. The sessions will explore key aspects of the learning process, helping parents feel informed, confident, and equipped to support their child’s education in an evidence-based way.

Growth mindset and resilience - Tuesday 17th March 3:45 - 4:45pm

A creche facility will be provided for children of parents attending the information session (places will need to be booked in advance – further information to follow)

This session will explore how developing a growth mindset can help children build resilience, confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning. Parents will learn about the difference between a fixed and growth mindset, how praise and feedback influence motivation, and practical ways to encourage perseverance when faced with challenges. The session will share simple strategies families can use at home to help children embrace mistakes as part of learning, stay motivated, and bounce back from setbacks. By working together, we can nurture a school culture where every child believes they can improve through effort, practice, and self-belief.

Preparing for Key Stage 2 SATs - Thursday 19th March 3:45-4:45pm

This information session will provide parents with an overview of the purpose and importance of the end of KS2 SATs and writing assessment, and will outline how we support the children in the lead-up to and during the final assessments in May. Parents will get a flavour of the questions that the children will answer, how the papers are structured and marked, and share key dates. We will highlight ways parents can continue to support learning at home, and how we help children manage any worries or nerves. Finally, there will be an opportunity for parents to ask any questions.

Phonics Screening Check Information Session - Thursday 23rd April 2026 - 3:30-4:15pm and repeated 7:00-7:45pm

For parents of Year 1 and any Year 2’s retaking the Phonics Screening Check this year. A créche facility will be available for parents attending the 3:30 - 4:15pm session.

This session will provide parents with information about the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check, including what it involves, how it is carried out, and how we prepare children for it in school. Parents will learn about the different phonics phases, how children use their phonic knowledge to decode words (both real and pseudo/‘alien’ words), and the types of activities that support reading development. We will also share practical ideas for supporting phonics and early reading at home, helping children build confidence and enjoyment as readers.

Maths Mastery, exploring how we teach Maths at Trinity - Thursday 7th May 4:00-5:00pm

This session will give parents an insight into the Maths Mastery approach and how it is used to develop a deep, secure understanding of mathematical concepts. We will explore how lessons are structured to promote fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving, and how all children are supported and challenged to achieve success. Parents will see examples of the strategies and representations used in class—such as the concrete–pictorial–abstract (CPA) model—and discover ways to support mathematical thinking at home. The session aims to strengthen the partnership between home and school by helping families understand the methods, language, and principles that underpin our maths teaching.

Supporting reading in Key Stage 2 - Summer Term, date to be advised

This session will focus on how parents can best support their child’s reading development throughout Key Stage 2. We will explore how reading skills progress beyond early decoding, including developing fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Parents will gain practical tips on how to make reading enjoyable and purposeful at home—such as discussing texts, asking effective questions, and encouraging regular reading habits. The session will also highlight how reading across a range of genres supports learning in all subjects and fosters a lifelong love of reading.

We hope you will find these sessions helpful and informative and look forward to welcoming as many parents as possible. These information sessions will offer a valuable opportunity for school and home to work in partnership to support the children’s learning.
